What Did We Learn From The Star Wars Battlefront Beta?

The Balance Is Not Strong With This One

Okay I am just going to put it out there, but Walker Assault on Hoth had some really big balance issues. Playing as the Rebels I won maybe 3 games and playing as the Empire I won more than I can remember. Nonetheless, the mode was still a blast to play and when I did win as the Rebels it was so much more rewarding! Thankfully, DICE has said they are aware of the balance issues and are addressing them before the full game release.

Blasters Get Hot

Unlike its predecessors, this Battlefront has decided to replace ammunition with an overheat function on most of the guns. This makes for a variety of exciting outcomes to firing your weapon of choice. If all goes well you fire till the gun is almost overheated and then you stop to let it cool. If you get a little too excited and you are just unleashing death upon the Storm Troopers then it may overheat. But there is no need to fear because the blaster flush button is hear! So if the gun does overheat you can hit the X or triangle button at the right time and it flushes your blaster which makes so you can start shooting again. This comes in really handy when trying to damage an AT-AT. In addition, DICE has announced a bunch of the new guns which all sound really exciting. It will be interesting to see how this new game element affects them in the final release.

To Fly Or Not to Fly

I really enjoyed my time as a TIE fighter pilot accept I could not figure out my purpose aside from killing other aircraft.  It would be fun to strafe infantry but it is very hard to see them as both the Storm Troopers and Rebel Soldiers are wearing white outfits. And a lot of the time when I try to strafe I end up flying really low and crashing. Now I do realize it may just be my low quality fighter pilot skills, but I just wanted more out of my TIE Fighter experience. On the other side of the spectrum, if enough Y-Wings come in you can have plenty of time to do some serious damage to AT-AT’s with your rebel aircraft. Nonetheless, some tweaking needs to be done, because what I would love is to be raining death from above!

Infinite Everything…Well Almost Everything

Yes, most of the items I put in my loadout I could use as many times as I wanted. As long as I let them recharge. There are a few things like the personal shield and anything you pick up which has single or limited uses. Though generally, I could throw grenades to my heart’s content!

Heroes

I was definitely able to live out some of my Star Wars dreams when I got to play as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, but these experiences were cut short anytime I encountered small groupings of enemy soldiers. Now this definitely could be attributed to my poor hero playing ability, but when I encountered three or more enemy soldier I found myself getting flanked and killed. I could auto block blaster bolts from the front but as soon as someone got to my side or back I got screwed. This really made heroes not feel powerful at all. In fact, I even found it really easy to kill them. I have no problem with making playing as hero challenging but I think the defensive arc needs to be expanded in the front!

Overall, the Star Wars Battlefront Beta was a blast and hyped me up even more for the final release!
